Canada’s Federal Skilled Worker Program

Minimum eligibility criteria

1.       Skilled worker experience

At least one year of experience in an occupation classified as skill level A, B, or O by the National Occupational Classification (NOC) in the previous 10 years. It must be a regular, well-paid work, either full-time or part-time.

2.       Language proficiency

You must take an approved language test and score at least a 7 on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) in each of the four language abilities (reading, writing, listening and speaking).

3.       Education

For education completed outside of Canada, you must have a certificate, diploma, or degree from a secondary or post-secondary education institution and submit an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report.

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) uses a distinct points grid to assess the eligibility of all candidates based on six selection variables. The IRCC evaluates candidates and assigns a score out of 100 to them.

Supporting documents

You must have all of the necessary documentation to substantiate the information in your Express Entry profile. You must submit documents to the IRCC at various stages.

a.        A passport or any other travel document

  1. Valid language test report
  2. Education certificates with ECA report for education obtained outside of Canada
  3. Employment Certificates (Previous and Current Employer)
  4. Date of birth proof and recent photographs

Once you get an ITA, you must submit the following documents:

a.        Police Clearance Certificate

  1. Medical Examination Report
  2. Proof of Funds as proof that you can financially support yourself and your family members in Canada
  3. Other documents, as asked by the IRCC
